After watching ‘dil kabbadi’ last night where the filmmaker has tried to define infidelity in a way that is more acceptable plus desirable, I started thinking. There have been movies in the recent past which contradict the whole perception about love and lust. The latter is justified and has been placed higher than the former. Indian cinema has always come up with movies that are larger-than-life. And I have loved the romantic flicks as they always took me into this fantasy world where every thing is not perfect yet extremely appealing as it’s just the love factor that matters. But now I am being exposed to a completely different concept where you love someone truly madly deeply, but after marriage you allow yourself to fall for someone else and completely believe in the ‘variety is the spice of life’ proverb. Are such things actually happening in the society? Or is it just a futuristic vision of the media? If I track back the roots of this change, I guess it all goes back to the daily soaps. I mean they are the ones influencing the Indian woman to the max. I won’t mention men here as they have always been open to all kinds of relationships. But today it’s the woman who is changing, which ultimately leads to changing society. I somehow feel that the media is encouraging this change. It is exposing various existing immoral acts in a way that is attractive and justified in its own way.
I have always been taught that the media is a reflection of the society. But why do we forget that the Media and the society co-exist and thrive on each other. The media impacts on society as much as the society impacts on media.

Hmmm,,the media you are referring to is the entertainment industry ofcourse. Nowadays, in this multiplex era, they create movies that generate enough interest (TRP's) to get them a good opening week and collect their profits.
And to create that interest they may put all sort of things (even potraying lust, infidelity and immorality in a likeable manner.
Businessmen (in this case movie or TV soap producers) are not concerned with improving society neither to worsten the society, their motive is money, they do make sure that they dont cross the line. (I dont know who decides that line, must be our conscience. everyone has their own lines)
what may be immoral to us may not be immoral to someone else,,
I mean, infidelity could be justified by a lady by her own will, and we cant do much to argue.
and everyone hates the moral police (like VHP) and all, when they dont allow valentines day, but thats their belief,,it shouldnt be emposed on us.
see how their lines are diff than ours.
My personal belief, watch TV and movies for entertainment. Dont take it seriously. we should all have our own opinions and not just follow what the HERO does.
